Earn grocery money by shopping
by One Nation News Staff

A University of Minnesota research study is looking at the ways people get food in low-income neighborhoods. Residents of selected areas of north and south Minneapolis are being recruited to take part in a five day case study. During the study period, participants will have three tasks:

(1) Carry a cell phone that will keep a record of the trips they make throughout the day. This data will be completely confidential and will never be linked with any identifying information.
(2) Use the cell phones to take pictures of the places where they get food and the food they get.
(3) Keep a written diary of the places where they get food and save receipts from any shopping trips.

This information, along with interviews about the factors that shape these participants' decisions about where and how to get food, will help strengthen policies meant to improve access to healthy food in urban communities.

Participants will receive a gift card to Cub Foods or Target worth up to $75 in compensation once they have completed the study.

To be eligible for this study, you must live in the selected study neighborhoods (parts of north and south Minneapolis), be over 18, and have a household income of less than $2,500 per month. Currently, this study is looking for participants who are African-American or Latino in south Minneapolis or Hmong in North Minneapolis.

To volunteer for this study, complete the short eligibility survey on the following page. Click below to fill out the eligibility survey.
